Good point about "Home Sweet Home". Whatever the production might actually have been (state-of-the-art for then, though it may not be exactly to the taste of either of us), I think you can make a case for it as the template for the idea of the power ballad (though mainstream media have always liked to cite REO Speedwagon's "Keep On Lovin' You").
